Role of the Technical Sales Engineer

The role of the Technical Sales Engineer is to provide expert technical support to the sales team and take an active role in the sale of our products and services to our customers and prospective customers. Creating high quality presentation materials and pitching solutions to the prospect base. Liaising between the front-end sales teams and the engineering/product management teams to develop technical solutions that address the requirements of our customers. Creating accurate costs for the solutions and developing response to Tender/Information for customers. Developing high quality proposals with compelling arguments for customers to invest in Verlume’s technology.

Key Responsibilities

As Technical Sales Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Support the sales effort with solution-based selling into the prospect account base
  • Manage all technical aspects of RFP / RFI / RTT responses
  • Successfully match customer ‘Key Issues’ and technical requirements to proposed solutions
  • Create and deliver powerful presentations that clearly communicate the uniqueness of the Verlume value proposition
  • Support the Sales effort to plan, prepare and execute on strategic deals in complex sales cycles
  • Model the financial business case associated with each sales opportunity including managing the creation of CTR’s and project cost calculation
  • Effectively communicate client needs to the R&D teams for future product enhancements
  • Collect and document competitive intelligence
  • Recording and maintaining client contact data
  • Supporting marketing by attending trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events
  • Involvement in contract negotiations to ensure technical compliance of contracts
  • Working closely with the project engineers and project managers to ensure smooth handover to projects after contract sign off
  • Supporting the project team during execution to ensure continuity between sales and operations

The Technical Sales Engineer will report to the Chief Commercial Officer but will work closely with the technical team.

 Our ideal candidate

To be successful in this role our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and behaviours:

  • Degree or equivalent, preferably with an engineering or numeracy base
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Proven work experience in an Engineering or similar technical role
  • Ability to forge strong, long-lasting relationships with customers
  • Ability to creatively explain and present complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and creativity skills
  • Some limited travel will be required.
