EC-OG today handed over food items which have been collected in the EC-OG office throughout the month of December. This food will go to help people in crisis in the local area this Christmas.

Since opening in May 2017, the Aberdeen North Foodbank has received food donations totalling 2 tonnes. Christmas is a time where the demand for the foodbank usually peaks and the top 10 shopping list items (including UHT/powdered milk, long life fruit juice, tea bags, cereal and tinned fruit/fish/meat) are in great demand.

The Trussell Trust, which runs the Aberdeen North Foodbank, vows to ‘Stop UK Hunger’ with 1 in 5 UK families now living below the poverty line. The trust is responsible for co-ordinating the sole network of foodbanks across the United Kingdom. Between 1st April and 30th September 2017, The Trussell Trust’s foodbank network distributed 586,907 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis compared to 519,342 during the same period last year.

EC-OG also held a raffle to raise further funds for the foodbank. Almost £200 was raised and this money was used to buy nappies, wipes and baby food – items which are urgently needed by families who use the foodbank.

Heather Sharkey, EC-OG Commercial Director said:
‘We are really happy to be able to support a local charity that makes a real impact. There are families in our area that need a little extra help at Christmas and it’s great that our team can do our bit to support them.’

Cat McPhee, Admin Manager, Events and Special Projects at King’s Community Church where the foodbank is based said:
‘We would like to express our gratitude to EC-OG for their generous support. Thank you so much, this donation will help to feed those who really need it at Christmas.’
