Powering Offshore Monitoring with Intelligent Subsea Power Solutions

Monitoring and inspecting subsea infrastructure is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of offshore assets. To do so, reliable and efficient offshore power is essential.

Challenges in Subsea Infrastructure Monitoring

Maintaining a clear picture of underwater assets brings a unique set of challenges. Monitoring systems such as sensors, cameras and corrosion inspection tools require stable, long-duration power to deliver continuous insights. These systems can help prevent power interruptions, which delay projects and increase risk.

Subsea infrastructure data needs to be transmitted back to operators promptly, whilst ensuring reliable communications for decision-making and rapid response. Deploying vessels to replace power supplies, retrieve data or reset systems also drives up operational expenditure, increases carbon footprint and can potentially delay projects. Any break in monitoring can impact safety, asset integrity and regulatory compliance, with significant financial consequences.

Powering Subsea Operations with Minimal Intervention

At Verlume, we deliver intelligent subsea power systems, like Charge, that enable extended, autonomous monitoring – improving operational reliability and reducing overall costs and risks associated with monitoring. Our systems can:

  • Deliver stable power to subsea assets for extended periods, reducing the frequency of costly vessel deployments.
  • Provide power data transmission systems so that operators can access real-time infrastructure data without interruption.
  • Lower operational risk and help keep projects on schedule and within budget, by reducing manual intervention.
  • Support early-stage surveys and inspections for new offshore developments, enabling quicker site assessment and project timelines.

Case Study: Powering Subsea Monitoring Systems

Verlume’s technology is already making an impact in providing a new way of delivering both short and long-term power to monitoring applications. A Charge system fitted within a customer supplied skid provided a consistent power supply for monitoring the subsea environment in the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America). This system was deployed in 2024 and supplied 30 days of continuous operation with six hours of recharge time – Read case study here.

With Verlume’s intelligent subsea power systems, operators can achieve continuous, reliable monitoring of critical infrastructure – unlocking more efficient offshore operations whilst mitigating risk.
